How to Use Twitter Videos To Network Online
I am very much about the long term as it builds the relationship through providing really good content, advice and guidance, where I can. – Phillip Twyford (@PTwyford)
Kaitlin: Tell us the practicals of how you make a Twitter video?
Phillip: I do everything via my mobile. Once I have wifi access, it can be very nimble and flexible. To give you a very quick set up of how I do it: I check my notifications at the same time everyday; I see who is following me, then I will do a video tweet to that person, 9 seconds long. I would do 20 – 30 videos at once.
This is what Phillip’s first twitter video sent to me @KaitlinZhang said:
“Hey Kaitlin, Phillip here, The Curly Marketer, just saying thanks so much for your recent follow on Twitter. Really appreciate it. And I hope you enjoy the contents that you see on the feed. Take care.”

Kaitlin: How did you get started with Twitter video?
Phillip: I got a bit of inspiration from Gary Vaynerchuk (@GaryVee), who you know. I listened to Gary on Social Media Examiner podcast with Michael Stelzner (@). He said something that is quite interesting. He basically said that an awful lot of influencers don’t go out of their way to thank people for following them, or retweet their content, while as he said he did. I took that on board. Maybe that is a way to create a point of difference for myself by actively engaging followers.
Kaitlin: What are some tips you can to someone who is eager to get started with Twitter?
Phillip: I suppose the first thing is you have to understand your own niche, your own market. You need to do proprietary research. Go create a strategy on how you use twitter. From the point of view of setting up your twitter lists, you should set up a private twitter list for your customers, your competitors, and obviously influencers… I generally keep my influencer list private, just for myself. You can check that list every day, see what those influencers are tweeting about. And then you can start to get involved in those conversations.
Kaitlin: How did you connect with Madalyn Sklar (@), the Twitter expert?
So for example, I wanted to build a relationship with Madalyn Sklar, who is the Twitter expert. I followed her tweet and I started to comment, so I wouldn’t just retweet. I actually would tweet my comments, saying, “Madalyn, love point 5. I use that continually in my own Twitter strategy.” I put in her handle @MadalynSklar, so she would get a notification of not only have I tweeted out her content, I have also made a positive comment as well.
